fer|rite «FEHR yt», noun.
1. a mixed oxide of iron and other elements that is a poor conductor of electricity, used especially where magnetic materials are needed in which eddy current losses are small.
2. almost pure metallic iron, separated out from iron carbides in the cooling of steel.
3. Geology. a substance, not analyzable but probably containing iron, that occurs in red or yellow particles in certain rocks.
